3 months off...

Last sunday while training I suffered an accident in Stechlberg, Switzerland by ground-spiralling over high-grass. I went too low, my wingtip caught the flowers and pulled me down...I hit the ground first with my left foot which broke in the impact. A few hours later I passed through an operation to fix the bones in my ankle (with 3 screws) and the blood circulation in my feet, then I spent 4 more days in the hospital.
Fortunately up to now I almost didn't have any pain, however it is much harder to deal with the exasperation and disappointment I feel now, but I try to get read of it quickly and focus only on a fast recovery and return to the sport as soon as possible.

Thanks for the selfness support of my girlfriend, family, friends and last but not least our sponsors, to help my way back.

Soo, 6 weeks passed after my accident...Today I visited the local hospital to make an X-ray and consult with my doctor. He said it looks pretty nice and that I will probably recover 100%!
Unfortunately I have to use cruthes to walk for another 6 weeks, while doing physiotherapy and walking in water twice a week.

I think my first flight will be on the 10th August over Geneva, jumping out from a helicopter with Gábor :-)

Oh by the way, you didn't see the cut on the other side yet...hehe.

Blue skies,
Pál

Hi Akira!

Yeah, you've seen the team bus, but I'm now in Switzerland and Gábor is somewher in France making an acro show, so at the moment his girlfriend and another friend of us is driving around with the van. We'll join together again at Vertigo this week. Hope to see you there!

Hi Pal we send you our best wishes for a quick recovery from all your friends in Israel.
Welcome to the club. I myself got a similar wound (worst), two permanent metal 8 screws, a piece of bone extracted from the hip to remodelate ankle, and lost most cartilago so not much articulation left.
But I must tell you that your positive attitide is the best help for a quick recovery.
When are you coming again to Brazil to Floranapolis and Valadares? I hope next time to calibrate better our trip.

How are you Pal now? Do you have good recovery? how is your walking? Did you try to run some steps or it is still hard? I wish to see you in the blue sky as soon as possible. Please write some good news about yourself sometimes.
Best Wishes for your fast recovery and get well soon.

Good news from Jeremy. He has now some piece of metal in the back (will stay one year) but the doctors said that he should recover completely without any long term consequences. But he will be off from flying for several months.

Well he made a ground spiral ... I do not know more ... but he will be OK.

PalTakats's picture

Ohhh shit! How it happened? I know Jeremy, he is really a very talented and extremely motivated, young pilot...I'm sorry for him.
Please forward my best wishes if possible!

Hi all,

Another accident happened to a young very talented acro pilot. Jeremy Bailly (from Macpara) also crashed during a ground spiral. He suffers serious back injuries. His life does not seem to be in danger. He is in surgery at the hospital of Grenoble.

I wish him all the best and a quick recovery.

Hi Pál,

What a pity. Maybee we should design some sharper stabilo-lines? Maybe a problem to find volunteers to be at the landing-raft if we use the razor-lines? I had the similar problem some years ago in the Netherlands, going for one of my first clean ground-spirals until all the speed vanished and i rolled over the field in my lines and glider.. realizing that the problem was caused by 20 cm long grass????

I wish you really quick recovery Pál and may the force be with you.

Nice work bro, chicks dig a manly scar like that. Have a speedy recovery, once you get a footbrace you could be flying again in a week or two. : ) Yeah, take it easy.

Hi Pal,

Best wishes for a quick recovery. I suffered an ankle fracture 4 month ago and got two surgical pins in a small bone called the "astragale" (french) maybe the "talus" in english ( http://parapentaix.over-blog.com/article-16451451.html ) ... I started to fly after two month but had to take off and land on one foot ... after another month I could launch normally and land on both my feet. Still after 4 month I can't run on long distances (50/70 meters ...) but it's improving every day.

You're going to have to do a lot of physiotherapy in order to recuperate fully (witch bone did you break ?) but with your motivation, no doubt it will be a fast recovery !

Again, best wishes for your healing.

Sorry to hear such a thing! Fast recover Pal !!! And don't forget to write here how do you feel.

We should make a chart : "no spiral landings except during competitions"! We know how to do it, unuseful to take risks. It looks like if god doesn't want you and Gabor to fly together! Forget God, only Jah is our copilot!
May Jah help you to recover your foot!

Hi Pal !

Considering the extreme-sport-circumstances, a friend of mine would say:

..."FEEEL the pain, LOOOVE the pain"... : )

...but 2 be honest, I wouldn't go that far ; )

Hope you get well soon and we'll be able to see you back in the air !

Hi Man!!

Nice pic of your foot!!!

Surprisingly you didn’t break anything close to your waist; witch happens pretty frequently in twisting the body after hitting the ground with the kind of impact you had.
Lucky you man…
Now pray not to have pain from time to time… you fly a lot but we all walk a lot and an injure in a foot is shit for the rest of the trip if not properly fixed.

Take it easy. You’ll be back soon.

A hug,
Faso (now Faso2!!)

P.D.: now you’ll have time to read and post my translations!!!
