Acrolac 2008 is CANCELLED!

Just a few days before the competition would start the organization cancelled the first APWC event, due to the bad weather forecast for the weekend. This would be the 7th Acrolac and during it's history the event always suffered by relatively bad weather conditions (the best was in 2007 so far with 2 valid solo and 3 synchro runs). After the 2nd Acro World Championsip in Voss, this is now the second competition of the season which won't be held, but as I know the first ever which was cancelled because of the weather forecast...

Read the official release:

"Because of the very unfavourable weather conditions, we inform you the cancellation of Acrolac 2008

We thank the volunteers, the pilots, the institutionals, the advertisers and the sponsors for their invaluable support

For logistic reasons it is impossible for us to defer Acrolac this year we give you appointment for the year 2009.

The Steering Committee"

To organize an acro- competition is very difficult.
Few money and little sponsors.
You look, in the acro-competitions any sponsors of produced by flight.
Any interest of the producers of sails, or very little.
In the other sports it absolutely is not this way.
I don't know why don't have made acrolac, but I can realize their difficulties.

Last year they tried...didn't work. However the communication between the organization and the pilots was pretty poor, this could be a reason...

I think, the competition should be organized at Ohrid :))

Most likely I wouldn't have been able to compete because I was wait-listed, but I'm sure glad I decided to go to Norway!

No guarantees, but so far . . . . the comp's still on!

Hey dude!
I'm also disappointed, but I think it was a difficult decision to take. Money is the reason. If they had maintained the competition with shit weather, no spectators whould have come, and no beers would have been sold.
Acrolac has a weak balance, not enough sponsors. It only works with volounteers, and yesterday evening, the weather forecast was awful (I watched it).
Next step : Vertigo!
Have a good rest for your foot man!

My personal opinion is that this is totally bullshit...how they can be so sure on Tuesday morning, that it will be unflyable on the weekend?! Everybody knows that on acro competitions the pilots have to fly - very often - in shity take-off or weather conditions. We don't want to fly XC, just glide out over the lake...However at Acrolac the mountain take-off is truly really bad (this "startplace" is only used during the competition), but they also have the towing boats...
I'm quite surprised - and I think I'm not alone - and I have the feeling a little bit that the weather was not the only reason to make this decision...
