On sunday the first solo compulsory run was done with 5 maneuvers (SAT, Helicopter, Wing-Over, Asymmetric SAT, Dynamic Full Stall). Unfortunately not all the pilots had the altitude to finish their program and some of them (like me) splashed into the water just after leading out their last maneuver.Mathias Roten fall into the water just few meters from the beach after his wing cravatted in the Dynamic Full Stall and got 2 warnings from the judges (3 warnings means 30 points cut from the total score). The swiss Christian Mauer won the task in front of Félix Rodriguez (Spain) and Hernan Pittoco (Argentina) with a very nice run and the most amazing landings I've ever seen: ground spiral with stabilo touch and water touch by hand, than landing on the raft with perfectly with a negative spin (he got 7.99 points for it out of 10!).
Both in synchro (yesterday) and solo (today) category the second runs were ruled by Helicopters and other stall based maneuvers like MacTwists and Misty Flips. It was an interesting, restricted announced program without any SAT maneuvers. It means the pilots can choose their program by their own, but only from a given list of maneuvers. Almost all the pilots got a little headache to try to figure out their best possible program - these kind of tasks are quite unusual on acro competitions however it can be very exciting also.
The weather forecast is not too great for the rest of the competition so the organizers decided to make one solo and one synchro run tomorrow, still with restricted announced program but this time without any stall maneuvers. So instead of today's Helico day, tomorrow the spectators will be impressed by the most dynamic maneuvers like Asymmetric SATs, Tumblings, Rythmic SATs and Infinitys.
