Just a few weeks before the competition in Bygland I got the disturbing feeling that something was wrong.
And it was. The organizers failed to pay and send the cat2 application to the FAI in time. End even if all normal channels (justacro.com, Facebook and so on) had announced this as an cat2 event, FAI could not approve the delayed payment and applicationform.
The competition in Bygland, was the only competition in Norway this season, and the only easy way for norwegian pilots to get FAI ranking points, so this was a very bad situation.
But the atmosphere in Bygland when we arrived was euphoric and extremely welcoming. Ole Jørgen Løvland, who failed getting a FAI cat2 comp, did everything else in perfectly. And in two seconds all our negative feelings became warm and positive. Warm because of the 30 deg Celcius.
We (BULAboys Pål and Emil) came just in time for the first run. But because of our long travel, we were allowed to take off last. And take off was easy as winchboats where used. But even though, Emil had a very bad first run ending up in 7th place. I had better luck and made second with Morten Knapstad on top. Morten has been acroflying for years, but surprized everybody last season when he came 4th in the biggest Norwegian comp. So now he is someone to look out for.
Rolf Dale, also top 3 in run1 was also someone that could bring it all home.
Later Emil flew better and better, and on the last day before the last run, it was only 0,3 points holding him away from second place after Rolf Dale and me Pål on first place. And with a very convincing last run which he won, we both ended up where we wanted. Gold and Silver in the Nordic Championships, and the norwegian pilot Rolf Dale on third. Morten squeezed down to fourth place.
It could have been different as Rolf missed out on landing points on each run because he landed dry on land. But hey. Who says he would hit the raft even if he tried. ;)
