Acroaria

Country:
Acroaria

Acroaria started in 2001 and was one of the first acro competitions ever organized. It used to be a part of the World Aerobatics Tour at probably the most stunning location of all events in Omegna, above Lake Orta (90km far from Milan and 50 km from the swiss border).

The pilots took-off from the Mottarone peak (1420 m ASL) and so they reached the lake quite high, sometimes even at 1000 meters. The event and the raft was placed in the entrance of a small bay, which is completely surrounded by the city. That gave a really special feeling both for the competitors and the spectators. This flying site is otherwise not suitable for acro as the official landing place is further away and higher from the lake. Also the access to the startplace is only possible by a 1 hour car drive.

Acroaria was never held again since 2009. In 2010 it was supposed to host the 2nd FAI Aerobatics Paragliding World Championships but it got cancelled due to budgeting issues .
