Beamer. How not to lose the pod/handle.

Hi all!

As highly recommended, I would like to practice rescue tossing, but I don't want to lose the pod/handle every time I do so... (it will be with a Beamer3, so the landing must be alright on a good ground)

I've noticed that Théo Deblic, not to mention him, in his YouTube tutorial has attached it to the top of the canopy. At least that is how it looks to me. He doesn't want to answer the comments about it, which is understandable.

Can you share your technique on this topic?

I was thinking about magnets...no sewing required, easy to connect. They need to be strong enough though, and maybe a bit heavy? (would be a shame if they changed the opening behavior...)
Any thoughts?

Thanks for any advice

I have done this modification and use it. Note that it does increase risk, obviously, and should only be implemented after careful consideration. Avoid doing it on both of your rescues.

If you choose to do it, the attachment point and the length of the line between the beamer and the pod is important. You want it to be attached along the centerline with a pretty short and thin line, like 10cm. Basically the idea is that you want the line as short as possible without the pod interferring with your packing. A natural place to connect it is at the "highest" point of the beamer, where the pull-up point on the beamer is furthest from the risers, NOT right on the nose of the beamer itself (see picture). This allows you to minimize the line length while ensuring the pod remains on the top surface and can't sneak around the edges. To attach, a simple sewing needle with a thin line does the trick.

I personally plan to modify my attachment method soon to use magnets and adjust the holding force to around 500g, light enough that the weight of the reserve will disconnect it if the pod ends up hung up in the lines. I find small, roughly 5mm diameter rare earth magnets to be sufficient and if they are too strong you can laminate them with some tape to reduce the holding force. I haven't tested this idea yet but I can't conceive of how it would increase risk over a fixed attachment, though you can probably use some weak fishing line for a similar effect (just easier to break accidentally during packing)

Hey Phinity
I simply put an AirTag on it :D but I think any GPS tracker should work and always found it so far :) but should be placed on the handle or outside of the container ;)
