hey Brad, how's that CAPS LOCK!
hehe, ;)
I have no opinion on this video, but i really like reading this stuff, Pilots opinions are like gold and good to learn from.

I CANT COMMENT ON HIS RYTHMIC AS IM NOT AT THAT LEVEL MYSELF BUT I WOULD OF THOUGHT THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN THIS TRICK IS TO LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.
I THINK ITS A BIT LIKE HELLY TO MASTER THERES ONLY SO MUCH PEOPLE CAN TEACH YOU AND THE REST IS DOWN TO YOU TO FIND THAT POINT TO ENTER/EXIT.
IM SURE MOST PILOTS WHILE LEARNING RYTHMIC GET THEM SELFS IN THE SAME MESS.

BRAD.

Pal, i put a lot of smiles in my comment hoping that someone more experienced will comment that...
What is NICE? Material, because it shows a lot of mess, when the technique is wrong, and i will for sure remember when to say STOP.

By the way i thought that the well mounted helmet is the basic trick :-).

All the comment is nice, i am ok with you about all.
Just i think the super sonic is realy good for learn rithmique sat to infinit, but only with new one, because when it is old one it is realy more dificult.

Have nice new manoeuvre

Hi again!

I really dont know Francois and his flying skills. He is for sure a good pilot otherwise he would not be there where he is at trying those things. But looking at this (and several other) video you can see it so clearly that people are "training" without a good, planned concept and this is dangerous. I am not attacking him, but this way of approach to learn acro what you can - unfortunately - see more and more often.
Of course all the pilots who ever learned Infinity have gone through these experiences like falling close to their canopy. But even 2-3 years ago nobody had the possibility to type into youtube "infinity" and watch tons of onboard videos how to actually do that and you could hardly ask someone to teach you.. Raul showed me videos of how he worked out the Infinity Tumbling. I must say all my respect that he had an absolutely rough and dangerous way till he found out how this thing works. He probably fell next to his canopy as many times as all of us all together and he didn't give up. But he was the first ever to do that and he could not be even sure that it works or not!
Today you guys are lucky enough that the knowledge is out there, that you are able to fly a good glider and watch all the videos or even to find a pilot close to your area with more experience. So why don't you learn from other`s mistakes? You don't need to go through all that crap yourself!
Of course it doesn't means that it is easy or safe to learn. The thing what nerves me is seeing pilots ONLY focusing on making as many turns as possible even if their technique is ridicolously bad and every time they go too far (till the glider "says" enough and not the pilot!) instead of exitting the maneuver clean, just one turn before. I don't know about you but my philosophy to learn acro was to try to prevent these situations and always exit "before" and not "after". First of all because I had a good amount of healthy fear and second of all because I truly believe that this is the right way. If it doesn't feel good, just stop it! The glider ALWAYS gives you the sign one turn before if you can continue or if you should stop straight away before it's too late. Nowadays gliders are great but it is not a church to believe in it so blind, so please look after those signs! Keep your eyes open and listen to those tells of your wing! In this video you barely see a sign the he would ever want to exit before the deep shit happens. Before you ever try a new maneuver you should normally spend hours sitting at home and just trying to imagine in your mind what and how you should do, what mistakes you can do, what can go wrong and how you gonna handle all that. There are all the videos available to help you in this "dry training", so why would you just simply go for it and make failure on failure...?

Regarding rythmic sat. THIS MANEUVER IS THE ***ONLY SAFE WAY*** TO LEARN THE INFINIT TUMBLING!

In Rythmic SAT every glider passes through a relatively unstable position which is just about 1-2 turns before arriving to the vertical angle, where the movement is still on the side like in a very high tumbling, but it is not the Infinity position yet. This is a point where - in my experience - all wings get a little unstable (more or less, depending on the model and the energy you have) which means that the outside tip gets unstable, starts flapping or even collapsing (some gliders more some gliders with good technique maybe almost unnoticable). You need to pass this critical angle as quick as possible into vertical. For me it seems like that the Sonic gets extremely sensible and unstable in this moment and even the smallest timing or brake input mistake is enough to get a collapse with a good chance of ending up with a huuuge cravatte. I know that the Sonic can do Rythmic SAT to Infinity but it seems like ot only works when the glider is still in very good condition and you put a world class pilot under it. I never tried it myself, but I saw it quite some times. Last time in Italy at the World Air Games where Pittoco (who is really one of the best pilots on this planet) ended up finishing on the 12th place basically because he put rythmic sat in 2 of his runs and both times he ended up falling next to his collapsing canopy just before arriving to Infinity. For me it is a sign that this is really not a glider to learn Rythmic SAT with.

at this point I have to say, Pal, that François was making one of the nicest helico connects and rhythmics i have ever seen before!!! he impressed us enough at zell am see during the quali run.
so i dont know why he fucked up the infinites so hard but for sure he knows how to perform the "basics" very beautiful and SAVE as I already said!.

Gonzo23's picture

Im sure, everybody who wants learn infinit has to go through this!

Pal. are you saying the Supersonic is not suitable for rithmic?

PalTakats's picture

Nice?? My godness...I wouldn't be too proud of that!

A great example how NOT to learn acro... I know that Infinity is fucking cool and it's a must to learn but hey, slow down people!!! I don't know about you but I've already been inside my canopy and I can tell you that it was the worst and most fuckn' scariest moment of my entire life. You don't want to try it out yourself, do you?

You know, people used to start with the basics first and go step by step towards the more advanced stuff but very sadly today it doesn't seems to be the trend anymore... Have you ever seen somebody sitting into a Formula1 racing car just after getting his driving licence?!? You guys just go for it without any clue, because you see all the videos and you got a glider for it. Come on, you just take lot's of speed and wait and pull and release and close your eyes and it's gonna be all beautiful!! You don't even need to learn how and when to exit because it's gonna happen by itself! Dude with that terrible technique and timing you gonna risk your life each time you enter a tumbling. If you really want to do that , for god'a sake at least get a glider which can make rythmic sat!!

People out there, I wish lot's of fun and first of all good luck to survive ...

at 1:21 i pressed stop button and i noticed your eyes are closed :-), but i guess i would close them too ;-)))
