Sunday night the Hungarians ruled the podium on the beach of Ölüdeniz!
Pál Takáts won the first World Cup event of the year 15 points ahead of his team partner Gábor Kézi. For the first time in acro competition history in their last two runs they performed Pál's trademark the newest trick called Esfera. The first woman was Alexandra Grillmayer - also from Hungary - with great clearance from the other girls! All three pilots are flying with U-Turn Thriller. Xandi Meschuh just missed the podium due to a failed Misty Flip so finally Félix Rodriguez came 3rd. Tim Alongi finished 5th, although he even forgot to fly one of his tricks in the first task!
The second task (that started yesterday already) has been completed and the results were published about an hour ago.
The winners of the second task and the overall TOP3 pilots are:
1st Pál Takáts (overall 1st)
2nd Gábor Kézi (overall 3rd)
3rd Xandi Meschuh (overall 2nd)
The shuttle with the first 15 pilots has already arrived to launch and the final run is just about to begin right now! Now the pilots are allowed to perform any maneuver again so everybody is going for his strongest possible routine!
After 2 days of raining and changeable weather the sun is back in Oludeniz :-). Today we started the day with shuttle the pilots up to the take off at 8:00 am. At the beginning of the day the wind at take off was very strong so there was no possibility to fly. So another parawaiting for one hour and then it was time to start the competition.
Yesterday evening we had another briefing to fill out the maneuver sheets for the first tasks. The judges decided to start the competition with a restricted announced program where it was only possible to choose maneuvers not higher than 1.8 coefficient (until Tumbling, Misty to Helico and Mactwist to Helico).
The weather here in Ölüdeniz had been pretty bad recently, it rained almost non-stop since yesterday afternoon till today morning. After the material check and the general briefing the sky was still very cloudy but some tandems flew down and the 5 pilots who need to fly the safety selection were sent up to Babadag mountain. Unfortunately they were not able to launch later on. A few others made a small show during the opening ceremony flying down from the low take-off site at 900 meters (which is normally prohibited and not in use anyway).
